REST...

Jess! You look so tired. Haven’t get enough hours of rest lately?

REST?! What rest?! Uh so….what is rest anyway?

I can’t remember when is the last time I had a proper rest ever since I came to KL. But I do remember my constant back to back schedules where “sleeping-hours” slot can’t even find its proper placement at all. Do I ever sleep?! Sure I do! I am a human after all. However, once I have things to do, my mind will keep thinking bout organizing and managing them here and there to the point that I ended up dreaming bout it! [Uh..this explains why I talk and giggle in my sleep occasionally?!]
Always found being restless, I remember most of the time that am often chasing after time, sleeping late and getting up at wee hours.

Collection of memories where I had heaps of things to do and rest can’t be found near me….

  • Finishing my webpage design project which screwed up technically and required rectification last min. Thanks to this unreasonable problem, experienced longest sleepless hours of 52-hours tops!
  • Catching my flights (potential Amazing Race contestant?!) Remembered couple of occasion where I just finished packing before I rushed to airport
  • Chasing after public transport rides
  • Answering long distance distress calls at odd hours
  • Squeezing out ideas and solutions to events or situation when needed and driven to the point of frustrating tears
  • Preparing my teaching lessons for either the following day or week
  • Chasing after ppl who I was forced to work together with for projects/assignments. Tormenting yet lessons and experiences gained
  • Catching up on readings and studies. So many books and articles out there!!!
  • Many other little yet important things needed to be done
  • Maintaining household chores and stuffs. (Yeah..can open up a hotel to handle housekeeping dept already….)

So what is my version of rest? Beside sleep which is a definite physical requirement to any human being, REST = setting apart a time-out moment to drop every usual activity or work, and instead doing something different for a change. Time to be alone and reflect on past’s goodness & bad and hope for better promises from Him.

My latest rest ever since I came to KL?! Morning jogs in Melbourne’s cold winter, armed with an iPod of songs and messages that smack sense of peace & refreshing thoughts to me. Call it crazy but it was a spurt of moment decision to deal my restlessness. Maybe this explains why I kept sleeping late and waking up early while in Melbourne? [Ryan…I am a late-riser, really!!! Ask my parents & Yu-Wei! Hahaa....]

We can be forever tied up in our agenda of busy-ness but is it fruitful at the end of the day? Being a restless person, I know I won’t stop until my goal is achieve but this doesn’t stop me from having my pit-stop rests in between that He wants me to have and enjoy… =)

"On the seventh day, having finished his task, God rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from his work of creation." Genesis 2:2-3

"It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones." Psalm 127:2

"I will lie down in peace and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe."Psalm 4:8

"Work for six days, and rest on the seventh. This will give your ox and your donkey a chance to rest. It will also allow the people of your household, including your slaves and visitors, to be refreshed."Exodus 23:12

What’s an ideal pit-stop rest for you?!
